Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge The current study was designed to examine linkages between mothers' and daughters' identity and relationship perceptions, their interactions around identity beliefs, and adolescent identity development within a population of adjudicated adolescent girls. Interviews and an interaction task were completed by 25 mother-daughter pairs. Findings revealed both positive and negative identity and relationship themes. Furthermore, observations of mother-daughter interactions suggested that there were patterns promoting and impeding healthy identity development. Implications for practice are discussed.
